Dallas, Texas — June 23, 2016 – Thirty-five players began the day at the Q-School Collegiate Championship hosted at the historic Golf Club of Dallas, located in Oak Cliff and formerly known as Oak Cliff Country Club. The club has previously hosted the Dallas Open, now known as the Byron Nelson championship. The TJGT named this tournament after the Web.com tour’s Q School which is annually held at the same venue.

Round One

Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted the competitors as they began their practice routines on the first day of play. With 36 holes ahead of them, it was important that players stayed hydrated and kept their mental focus sharp. There were plenty of opportunities for birdies on the classically-styled country club course. In the Collegiate Men’s Division, Jesse Bratz, a University of California-Davis men’s golf team member, finished his first 36 holes with a score of 141 (+1 over), giving him a two shot lead over Daniel Gurtner of Texas Christian University. In the Collegiate Women’s Division, Sarah Moore of Midwestern State University created a three shot lead over Tiffany Breitenwischer on the women’s side. Breitenwischer, like Gurtner, also competes for Texas Christian University.

Round Two

A tranquil summer morning rolled in for the final round the Q-School Collegiate Championship. Thirty-three players made their way back out to the course to try and improve on round 1 and round 2 scores. In the collegiate men’s division, Jesse Bratz held off Daniel Gurtner to capture the title by three shots. Bratz fired a final round of 74 (+5 over) for his final round. In the Collegiate Women’s division, Sarah Moore remained victorious winning by three strokes over Haley Dambold of Midwestern State University. The top three in each division received a pro shop credit for their great play over the 54 holes.

The TCAT Collegiate Classic @ Barton Creek was played December 18th-19th, 2014 at the Barton Creek Resort in Austin, TX on the Crenshaw Cliffside course. All Men played 6,630 yards and all Women played 6,152 yards in this ranked-event.

Day 1

Day 1 of the Collegiate Classic at Barton Creek brought together 24 strong collegiate players competing to become the Champion of the 3rd year event. In the Collegiate Men’s division 17 players competed very hard during the first 36 holes highlighted by two under par scores shot by Coy Dobson and Logan Davis, both who fired a 1-under par 70 to take the first round lead over the field. Showing the strength of the field, after 18 holes of play there were four scores of even par or better. On the Collegiate Women’s side, Emily Gilbreth was able to post the only score in the 70s, with a round of 77 to set the pace for the women. A wet, 6100-yard golf course gave the women a tough challenge all throughout the day. Emily’s first round 77 gave her a 3-shot lead heading into the afternoon 18 over Kelli Rollo who opened with a first round 80. In the afternoon rounds, Austin Wylie fired a stellar 69 for a two-round total of 140 and vaulted into first place in the Collegiate Men’s division. He didn’t have much wiggle room however, because Zander Lozano was hot on his heels with a two round total of 141 after firing round s of 71-70. Kelli Rollo in the Women’s division managed to better her first round score by two shots, firing a second round 78, to climb within two shots of the leader, Emily Gilbreth. Emily was able to maintain that two shot lead by shooting a second round 79, which gave her two rounds in the 70s and was the only player in her division to do so. In each division it was going to come down to the final round to crown champions, as players were neck and neck heading into the final day.

Day 2

The final round of the Collegiate Classic at Barton Creek did not disappoint. The leaders from day 1 battled it out and hung tough all day to maintain their lead over the field. Zander Lozano and Austin Wylie tied at the top with a three round total of 214. The champion, Zander Lozano, was crowned on the 2nd playoff hole by making a 25-foot birdie putt. The round of the day went to Logan Boatner who fired a final round 68 to finish at a three round total of 220. Finishing in 3rd alone was Mr. Coy Dobson who finished the tournament at 219. TCAT Prestonwood Collegiate Christmas Classic

Posted ~ December 17, 2014

The TCAT Prestonwood Collegiate Christmas Classic was played December 16th-17th, 2014 at Prestonwood CC on the Hills Course in Plano, TX. All Men played 6,496 yards and all Women played 6,040 yards in cloudy and cold weather.

Event Recap

Collegiate Men: Day one of the first ever Prestonwood Collegiate Christmas Classic was nothing short of very familiar college golf playing conditions. With wind chills in the 40s, the collegiate men were faced with adverse conditions which made the Prestonwood Country Club play very demanding and difficult. Straight tee shots are a premium on the Hills course, as the scorecard yardage of 6500 yards might seem short, but with many doglegs it plays much longer than its posted yardage. In the first round, Rogers State golfer, Hagen Barmassse made 3 birdies in his opening round and fired a four-over par 76 to take a two-shot lead over the field. However, Jordan Bates came out blazing on the second 18, and fired a 1-under par 71 to leap frog the field and take a commanding six-shot lead heading into the final round. Jordan was very steady in his round of 71 with 5 birdies and just 4 bogeys.

Collegiate Women: The collegiate women came out conquering the golf course on its day one of play, seeing 4 out of the 6 possible rounds at even par or better. Dylan Kim, who will be attending Baylor University in the spring, fired a two round total of 139, 5-under par. Her rounds consisted of 71/68, which gave her a 3-shot lead over Oklahoma State’s Maddie McCrary heading into the final round. Maddie posted two great scores of 72/70, which placed her at 2-under par, keeping her in contention heading into the final round. In third place after day 1 was Houston Cougar Megan Thothong. Megan fired to solid rounds of 73/74, but unfortunately had to withdraw in the final round due to a foot injury. The collegiate women did not disappoint and left everyone very excited for the final round shootout to determine its Inaugural Champion.

Day 2

Collegiate Men: On a cold December morning the final group of boys separated themselves from the field. 3 out of the 4 in the final group finished in the top 3. Trace Morrow finished alone in 3rd with a final round 82, Hagen Barmasse finished solo second with a final round 74, which was low round of the day in the frigid 40 degree weather. And the first every Prestonwood Collegiate Christmas Classic Champion went to Jordan Bates, who plays his collegiate golf at East Central University. His final round 77 and 3 round total of 227 was good enough for a 4-shot victory to claim the title.

Collegiate Women: Winter weather was in full effect for the final round in the Women’s collegiate division as well, but this didn’t stop the ladies from playing some fantastic golf. Finishing in second place was the soon to be Baylor Bear, Dylan Kim. Dylan fired a final round 75, which gave her a three round total of 2-under par 214. The champion in the Women’s Collegiate division was Oklahoma State’s standout freshman, Maddie McCrary. Maddie torched the course for a final round bogey-free 68, which took her three round total to six-under par, 210. This was good enough for a four shot victory.

Her round saw consistent and steady play of two brides and only two bogeys. C.C Buford played very consistently the first round as well shooting 73 to leave her in second place and in good position for the final round. Day 1

Day 1 saw 44 collegiate golfers from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Australia tee it up at the prestigious JW Marriott’s TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.  The Oaks course is home to PGA Tours Valero Texas Open every spring but the players did not let this scare them off as they were playing for prizes ranging from $500 to $150 for the top 3 finishers.  Weather plagued the first day as thundershowers moved in early in the morning and lightning didn’t let up till nearly noon.  Consequently 18 holes were all that the players could get in but that didn’t keep some from posting good numbers.  On the Men’s side Calvin Lackey posted the round of the day with an even par 72.  Right behind him was Taylor Grant posting a 73, and Arcadio Ramos and Michael Culin with scores of 74.  On the Women’s side Thanya Pattamakijsakul let with a 79 while Chelsea Buford was right on her heels with an 80.

Day 2 started out much nicer as clear skies and the sun greeted the players on the range.  With the clearer skies came a brisk breeze that kept the players guessing all day.  On the Women’s side Cheslea Buford of The College of Charleston carded the round of the day of 81 to capture the title and $500 gift card by one stroke over Thanya Pattamakijsakul of Texas A & M.  On the Men’s side Michael Culin played tough through the conditions posting one of the best rounds of the day 77 to capture to the title and another $500 gift card. score.

Holiday Season at Barton Creek

Posted ~ December 22, 2013

The Texas Collegiate Amateur Tour kicked off its second event for the Holiday Season at Barton Creek on the Crenshaw Cliffside course. This course, designed by the legendary Austin native Ben Crenshaw, creates some challenging obstacles for many of the players. Rolling hills, natural plateaus, soft contours, and native vegetation are harmoniously woven into a playable championship layout that provides a variety of interesting holes to delight members and visitors alike.

Day 1

Day one the players accepted the challenge and weren’t afraid of the challenging pin placement. To lead the Collegiate Men after day one was James Feutz from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a combined score of 147; trailing James by one shot was Austin Wylie from Incarnate Word with a score of 148. In third place from Sam Houston State, Logan Boatner was not far behind with a combined score of 151.  For the Collegiate Women, leading the girls with an incredible score of 148 was Heather Shake. She held the low round of the day with an impressive 69. Trailing Heather by only a few shots from Stephen F. Austin was Ann Holcomb. These players had to endure tough, windy conditions during their second round, causing some difficulty on a tough course like Crenshaw Cliffside.

Day 2

The weather conditions for our final round couldn’t have been any better, and we expected some lower scores for round 3. Going into the final round it was going to be a close race amongst the leaders. The two leaders James Fuetz and Austin Wylie shot impressive low scoring rounds of 69 and 68, to finish with combined two-day totals of 216. This placed them in a sudden death playoff, which continued on through four holes, where James made a birdie to pull away as the champion.  For third place for the men, Kirby Gorzell shot a consistent 75 for a combined two-day total of 228.  In the Collegiate Women’s division Heather Shake solidified first place with a 72 for a two-day total of 220.  Ann Holcomb placed third with a combined score of 225. Baylor Bear Margaret Byers placed third with a 229 two-day combined score.
